Second Half
Jay- Dinner Date
The candles were lit and the vibe was beyond perfect at this moment I felt like the most fortunate man in the restaurant. Upon noticing all eyes were on Shaylin I felt like the most fortunate man in the world. I happened to spot an elderly white woman smack the back of her husband’s neck for staring a hole in my date’s plump ass. I don’t blame the man either if she wasn’t in my possession and I was in his position I would’ve been the man catching a hot hand to the neck.
“So how long you’ve be employed at Citizens?”
“About a month. This is actually my second job that I ever had.” I said sipping the fine red wine as we patiently waited for the food we ordered minutes ago. The restaurant lights were dim and the place was filled with people engaging in conversations.
“Really? Where did you work before the bank?” she asks. Telling her that I’m a former thief was out the question instead I falsified the answer, I scratched the side of my head thinking fast to utter a fib.
“Well my uncle had a buy and sell business. People would sell their gold scraps or electronics to us for a low price and we would sell them for a higher amount. Whenever he went to jail the business went downhill drastically. That’s when I applied for Citizen’s Bank. I had to attend three interviews and two weeks of class.”
The waitress appeared with hot plates in hand with steam twirling off the steaks, instantly my taste buds began to dance.
“Mmmh that looks delicious.” Shaylin said glaring at the food as the waitress placed the plate in front of her. She ordered the Steak a La Lobster the restaurant was famous for and it came with asparagus, béarnaise and sliced mushroom spread over top; for the side, she has Lobster Mac & Cheese. I opted for something similar to Shaylin’s but I had the garlic steak with mushrooms and garlic butter flowing over top, for the side dish roasted garlic whipped potatoes and salad.
“Is there anything else you two need?” The lady waitress said as she poured more water into Shaylin’s half empty glass of water. The waitress darted her eyes at me, I shook my head from side to side
“No. No thank you.”
Her eyes darted towards Shaylin who gave her a smile and the same answer.
“Okay. Enjoy.” The waitress said smiling then she disappeared towards the kitchen.
“Let’s bless the food before we eat.” Shaylin said as I stabbed my steak with the knife and fork. “Bow your head.” She demanded.
I closed my eyes shut and bowed my head. The fact that she was a spiritual woman had me astonished, my father who’s no longer alive always told me “A woman of the lord will make a stronger man.”
“Lord thank you for this food that we’re about to receive,” in the middle of blessing the food my phone rudely rang. My reflex caused me to quickly reach for the phone in my pocket to silence the ring, I shot a brisk look a Shaylin with one eye open and one eye shut as she finished up the prayer.
“Amen.”
“Amen.” I repeated after her as my phone rang again. I reached inside my pockets to grab my phone and that’s when heart drop to the floor. On the caller ID the name read,
“Gold Digging whore.” I know It sounded petty but I changed Amber’s contact name to exactly what my perspective of her actions were three weeks ago. I ignored the call again, sat the phone on the table facedown then turned my attention to the beautiful woman in front of me. She was devouring her food not paying me or my ringing phone no mind, that was somewhat of a turn on. I truly love when a woman eats without being shy in front of a man, I despised when a woman picks at their food with that insecurity shit. I bet women like that will lick the plate clean when a man isn’t present.
“When I first saw you in the bank for the first-time I instantly fell in love with you. I was like damn Yo, I have to say something.” I said smiling while I cut into the juicy meat. She shot me a smile back.
“I was surprised you even said something to me, I was looking rough that morning” She let out a slight giggle.
“Not in my eyes...” Ring, Ring, Ring the damn phone rang again. I glared at Shaylin her face went immediately blank irritated with the interruption.
“Are you going answer your phone? Apparently, it must be urgent if they’re consistently calling you.”
“No, it’s nobody important.” I brushed Shaylin’s words off ignoring Amber’s phone call. I turn the ringer off then sat the phone face down on the table and continued digging into my dinner. When I finished chewing I resumed to the previous topic before my phone rang.
“Like I said, not in my eyes…” Ring, Ring, Ring… the fucking phone rang again.
“I’m sorry, hold on one second.” I said as putting up the universal one [DJ1] sign with my index finger. “HELLO! WHY ARE YOU BLOWING UP MY DAMN PHONE!” I spat with annoyance streaming through my blood.
“Hey baby, how you been? I was calling because I was thinking we should make this work.” Amber said calmly like she hasn’t been missing damn near a month. Shaylin’s eyes were glued on me and I’m sure her ears were too.
“Look Amber, I’ve moved on with my life. You had your chance but you blew that when you couldn’t respect the changes of my lifestyle. So please can you leave me the fuck alone and let me be like you have in the past three weeks?”
“Fuck you, you broke piece of shit.” She said then ended the call.
After dinner, we took a stroll on the North Shore Riverside Trail to view the beautiful nightly Pittsburgh city skyline. When I dropped her off the night ended with a goodbye kiss.
When I arrived home, it was 11:58 two minutes from midnight. To be honest after a long day of work and then an amazing date with Shaylin I was exhausted I couldn’t wait to jump in my bed butt-ass-naked. The elevator seemed to move up floor to floor slower than usual. When I got to the third floor I let out a loud yawn, my body was giving me conformation that it was time to take my ass to bed. It seemed like forever before the elevator finally reached the fifth floor. Strolling sleepily down the hall my face twisted in confusion noticing a trail of clothes on the floor and what made it bad was it was all my clothes.
“What the fuck I thought.” My tiredness quickly turned into alertness. Slowly I tip toed down the hallway, I’m not fabricating shit I was nervous as a black man getting pulled over by the most prejudiced cop. Two doors away from my apartment I caught a glimpse that my door was wide open. Gradually with a rapid beating heart I stepped foot in my apartment to witness a catastrophe. You would’ve thought a tornado twirled through my place, the couch pillows were flipped, sliced open and the cotton in the couch was leaking like blood. The television was face down on the floor and the lamps on the coffee table were demolished. I hurried to the bedroom and the smell of bleach reeked as I walked in. The mirror to the dresser was smashed and all the drawers were pulled out and emptied. On the top of my bed my clothes were spread on the bed and the strong odder of bleach hit me even harder. This bitch Amber was the first person to come to mind.
Shaylin- Monday Afternoon.
“Today kind of slow. We’re trying to find a volunteer to go home early.” The white mid 40-year-old nursing supervisor Kim Webb announced with a Dunkin’ Donuts coffee cup in hand as she sat at the desk in front of the computer monitor. She was saying nothing but a word.
“Well, I’ll volunteer I have a lot of running around to do anyways.” I said slightly excited.
“Thanks. I really appreciate you Shaylin. My boss was on my case.” She said then turned her attention back to the computer and began to type something. In minutes, I was out the door calling my man.
Last Friday the date with Jay was spectacular he’s 100 percent all gentlemen I felt like a queen in a fairytale book when I was with him and at the end of the night when he kissed me I almost melted into a puddle. His kisses were so soft and passionate that I died twice went to heaven and then came back to Earth. The one thing that caught my attention that bothered me the most; he kept his phone facedown. I’m not his significate other but that’s a BIG sign with huge letters SNEAKY. We talked twice after the date he mentioned that his ex-girlfriend vandalized his apartment and poured bleach on his clothes. If I was that man I would be coming for her head, I would make her pay for all the damages.
Yesterday night I received a call from Steve, fortunately for the first time in weeks I answered the phone.
“Hello.” I said in a soft tone while baby Steve watched Sponge Bob on the television at the end of the bed.
“Hey, baby. How you doing?” his sexy deep voice sent a shock wave through my body.
“I’m fine.” I kept my answers short, even though I was ecstatic to hear his voice I still had to play hard to get. There was a pause for a second then he spoke.
“Come home baby, I miss you and my son.” He pleaded sounding sincere
“I miss you too baby but I can’t it’s not good for me nor you.”
“I will change I promise, I just want my family back.” He begged as baby Steve crawled his way up my legs to lay on my lap.
“Mommy, Mommy can I have a Krabby Patty like Sponge Bob for dinner tomorrow?” he asked sounding so happy. I had no choice but to chuckle.
“Yeah we can baby.” I answered baby Steve’s question but ignored his father’s.
“Do you want to talk to your son?”
“Yeah, put him on the phone.”
I handed the phone to baby Steve.
“Hey, Daddy.” His eyes lit up like the sky on July fourth.
“I miss you too daddy.” Baby Steve continued.
“Nothing, watching Sponge Bob with mommy.”
The more my son talked to his father the more my guard began to weaken.
“I can’t wait to see you too.”
Baby Steve turned and glanced at me
“Daddy said he loves you.”
“Tell him I love him too.”
Baby Steve handed me the phone “Daddy wants to talk to you.”
“Okay. Thanks, baby.” I said in my motherly voice.
“Shay baby, come back home please, I’ll book a trip for the three of us to go to Hawaii.”
My guard broke like the levee in New Orleans back in 2005 and Steve was Hurricane Katrina
“Okay. I’ll come home tomorrow.”
“Oh for real?” His tone filled with excitement and I couldn’t help but to be excited myself. We were going to be a family because it had to work.
…
After work, I was determined to go home to my man but for some reason he wasn’t answering his phone. I called again, again, and again still no answer. Instantly my woman’s intuition kicked in and planted a seed in my mind that Steve was at home with another woman. Instead of picking Baby Steve up from daycare early I decided to head straight to the house. I was speeding through traffic, dipping in and out of lanes on Penn Avenue determined to make a fifteen-minute trip to the North Side five minutes. The closer to home I got the more red lights stopped me in my tracks. My blood pressure was building to an all-time high, I was so eager to get to the house my fingers were shaking. I called once again and like the hundredth time no answer. Two blocks away from home at the intersection of East North Ave and Brighton Road a line of cars with orange flags trailing a black limousine and a black hearse crossed as soon as the light turned green for me to ride through.
“FUCK.” I said slapping the steering wheel like it was the steering wheel’s fault.
As soon as the lengthy line of funeral cars passed after watching two green lights alternate from yellow, red back to green my phone rang, rapidly my heart did cartwheels in my stomach.
“My man is calling me.” I thought as I hurried to reached for the phone on the passenger’s seat. On the caller ID, it read “Jay.” Not who I expected. Jay is a nice guy with lot of potential but I want my family back. I ignored the call then flew to the house going about 100 in a 25mph lane.
“Whoever this bitch is she’s going die with Steve.” I thought as I burned the tires when I made an instantaneous stop in front of the house. Swiftly I strolled out the car then did a slight jog through the front yard onto the porch with my keys in hand. I rapidly slid the key in the door then

First and for most I want to take a moment to thank everyone who read this story “Can’t Dispose Gold.” I also would like to thank my editor Chardaè for making time to edit in between her busy schedule. Honestly this was supposed to be at least five pages but turned out to 50 pages.
I wrote this piece to wake up the people who are stuck in the identical situation. There are people miserable in their relationship but mange to stay because they’re scared to be alone, accustomed to the cycle of living, afraid of a new beginning, addicted to unhealthy love, sex and luxury things a man or woman offers. For one love has no price, love shouldn’t be forced because of the child or environment that you are used to. Before love there should be a friendship and most important RESPECT AND TRUST without those three there’s no deep love. You can love someone to death but may not be in love with them. There’s a whole another world than being miserable, depressed and unwanted. Somebody else will love all your flaws and all your goods and treat you like the King and Queen God made you to be.
Thank you for reading I love each and one of you. This story for free so to pay me I just want you guys to copy and paste this link and send this story to everyone in your contacts.
